- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast
Instructions
- Mix the Dough
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and yeast.
- Add the warm water and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let it sit at room temperature for 12-18 hours. The dough will rise and develop bubbles on the surface.
- Shape the Dough
- After the dough has rested, turn it out onto a floured surface.
- Using floured hands, gently shape it into a round loaf. Try to handle the dough as little as possible to keep the air bubbles intact.
- Place the dough on a piece of parchment paper and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rest for about 1-2 hours.
- Preheat the Oven
- About 30 minutes before you plan to bake, preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Place a Dutch oven or heavy pot with a lid into the oven while it preheats.
- Bake the Bread
- When the oven is preheated and the dough has rested, carefully remove the hot Dutch oven from the oven.
- Using the parchment paper, lift the dough and place it into the Dutch oven. Cover with the lid.
- Bake for 30 minutes with the lid on.
- After 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the bread is a deep golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Cool the Bread
- Carefully remove the bread from the Dutch oven and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
