I've just tried this amazing carne asada recipe, and it's too good not to share. Perfect for a summer BBQ or a cozy dinner, it's got that authentic flavor that transports you straight to Mexico. Let's dive in!
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds flank or skirt steak
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 jalapeño, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Marinate the Steak:
- In a large bowl, mix together the orange juice, lime juice, soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, chopped jalapeño, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
- Place the steak in a large resealable bag or a shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for the best flavor.
- Prepare the Grill:
- Preheat your grill to high heat. If using a charcoal grill, make sure the coals are hot and glowing.
- Grill the Steak:
- Remove the steak from the marinade and let the excess drip off. Grill the steak for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness (medium-rare is fantastic for carne asada).
- Rest and Slice:
- Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for about 5 minutes. This helps retain the juices. Then, slice the steak thinly against the grain.
- Serve:
- Serve the carne asada with warm tortillas, fresh salsa, guacamole, and lime wedges. It’s perfect for tacos or just on its own with a side of rice and beans.
