Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (for an extra smoky flavor)
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste for heat)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional for a herbal note)
Instructions:
- Mix the Ingredients:
- In a bowl, combine all the ingredients. Mix thoroughly until well blended.
- Prepare the Ribs:
- Pat the ribs dry with paper towels. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs if it hasn’t already been removed. This helps the rub penetrate better and makes the ribs more tender.
- Apply the Rub:
- Generously apply the rib rub to both sides of the ribs. Massage it in well, ensuring an even coating. For best results, let the ribs sit with the rub for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before cooking, or even overnight in the refrigerator. This allows the flavors to penetrate the meat.
- Cook the Ribs:
- Cook the ribs according to your preferred method—grilling, baking, or smoking.
Tips:
- Adjust Spices: Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste preferences. If you like it sweeter, add more brown sugar. For more heat, increase the cayenne pepper.
- Experiment: You can also add other spices or herbs like ground mustard, celery seed, or paprika for a unique twist.
- Store: Store any leftover rub in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
