Ingredients:

  • For the Bread Pudding:
    • 6 cups cubed day-old bread (French, Italian, or brioche works well)
    • 2 cups whole milk
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1/2 cup raisins or other dried fruit (optional)
  • For Serving (Optional):
    • Whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or similar-sized dish.
  2. Prepare the Bread:
    • Place the cubed bread in a large bowl. If you’re using raisins or other dried fruit, sprinkle them over the bread.
  3. Make the Custard Mixture:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  4. Combine and Soak:
    • Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, gently tossing to ensure all the bread is soaked. Let it sit for about 15-30 minutes, or cover and refrigerate overnight for best results.
  5. Bake:
    • Pour the soaked bread mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the pudding is set in the center and the top is golden brown. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
  6. Serve:
    • Allow the bread pudding to cool slightly before serving.
    • Serve warm with optional whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Enjoy your classic bread pudding! It's a versatile base that you can customize with nuts, chocolate, or different spices to suit your taste.
