Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) beef (such as chuck or brisket), sliced thinly
  • 8 cups (2 liters) beef broth or stock
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch (2.5 cm) piece of ginger, sliced
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional: noodles or rice for serving
Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add the sliced beef to the pot and cook until browned on all sides.
  3. Pour in the beef broth or stock and bring to a boil.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the soup simmer for about 20-30 minutes, or until the beef is tender.
  5. Add the sliced carrots and celery to the pot and simmer for another 10-15 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  6. Stir in the soy sauce and oyster sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions. You can also serve the soup with noodles or rice if desired.
