Ingredients
- For the Banana Bread:
- 2 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips (optional)
- For Frying:
- Oil for deep frying (vegetable or canola)
- For Coating (optional):
- Powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Make the Banana Bread Batter:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the nuts or chocolate chips if desired.
- Heat the Oil:
- In a deep pot or fryer, heat oil to about 350°F (175°C). Make sure there’s enough oil to fully submerge the balls.
- Form the Balls:
- Use a cookie scoop or your hands to form small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) from the banana bread batter.
- Fry the Balls:
- Carefully drop a few balls into the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through, turning them occasionally for even cooking.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the balls and drain them on paper towels.
- Coat and Serve:
- If desired, toss the warm banana bread balls in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. Serve them warm.
Tips
- Serving Suggestions: These are delicious on their own or served with a side of chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or whipped cream for dipping.
- Storage: If you have leftovers, they can be stored in an airtight container, but they're best enjoyed fresh!
