Bill Cosby is the voice of Mushmouth. The "Dentist" monologue from Cosby's 1983 film Himself features a chinless, linguistically impaired simpleton who always spoke in virtual Ubbi Dubbi, which is equivalent to an overdose of novocaine in the mouth. Mushmouth is a member of the Junkyard Band and plays a homemade bass guitar.

Lou Scheimer is the voice of Dumb Donald. He is a dimwitted, lanky man who constantly wears a green long-sleeved jersey that is three sizes too big and a pink stocking cap that covers his whole face except for his mouth and eyes. Dumb Donald plays a morning glory horn from an old Victrola and a trombone fashioned from a plumber's pipe in the Junkyard Band.

Bill Cosby: His own voice. a persona modeled after him. Bill is an all-around good athlete, much like the others, but he spends most of his time attempting—though not always successfully—to keep his younger brother Russell out of trouble. Bill is typically the gang's voice of reason, much like Fat Albert. In the Junkyard Band, Bill uses spoons as sticks to play makeshift drums fashioned from an abandoned foot-pedal trash can.
Jan Crawford provided the voice of Russell Cosby. The youngest and tiniest member of the Junkyard Gang, Bill's little brother is named after Cosby's real-life brother, whom he frequently mentioned in his monologues. Regardless of the temperature, he always dons boots, an Ushanka winter hat, and a bulky jacket.

Gerald Edwards is the voice of Weird Harold. A tall, thin, beady-eyed child who wears a yellowish-brown dress blazer, brown socks on one foot, and red socks on the other. Harold is typically awkward. Weird Harold occasionally plays a "dressmaker dummy" in the percussion section of the Junkyard Band in addition to playing a harp constructed of bedsprings. He is referred to as Old Weird Harold instead of Weird Harold in the movie version.

Eric Suter provided the voice of Rudy Davis. Smart-talking, well-dressed, and a huckster adversary, he is more likely to get into trouble than out of it because to his arrogant attitude. To his credit, Rudy frequently learns his lesson and has a kind heart.
