Ingredients:​

  • 4 fish fillets (such as tilapia, sole, or flounder), about 6 ounces each
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, for dredging
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup capers, drained
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
  • Lemon slices, for garnish

Instructions:​

  1. Prepare the Fish:
    • Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels and season them with salt and pepper on both sides.
    • Dredge the fish fillets in flour, shaking off any excess.
  2. Cook the Fish:
    • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
    • Add the fish fillets to the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the fish from the skillet and transfer them to a plate. Keep warm.
  3. Make the Sauce:
    • In the same skillet, add the butter and let it melt.
    • Stir in the lemon juice and chicken or vegetable broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
    • Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly reduced.
  4. Finish the Dish:
    • Stir in the capers and cook for another minute.
    • Return the fish fillets to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them.
    • Cook for an additional minute to heat the fish through and allow it to absorb some of the sauce.
  5. Serve:
    • Transfer the fish fillets to serving plates.
    • Spoon the sauce and capers over the fish.
    • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and lemon slices.
    • Serve immediately, accompanied by your favorite side dishes such as steamed vegetables, rice, or pasta.
