Ingredients:

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (optional, for extra richness)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (such as thyme or rosemary, optional)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for a cheesy twist)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Prepare Sweet Potatoes:Wash and peel the sweet potatoes if desired. Place each sweet potato on a cutting board. To slice them Hasselback-style, place the sweet potato between two chopsticks or wooden spoons to prevent slicing all the way through. Slice the sweet potato thinly (about 1/8 inch) but stop just before cutting through. Repeat with all sweet potatoes.
  3. Season Sweet Potatoes:In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, melted butter (if using), garlic powder, smoked paprika, cinnamon (if using), salt, and pepper. Brush this mixture generously over the sweet potatoes, making sure to get some of the seasoning between the slices.
  4. Bake:Place the sweet potatoes on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are tender and the edges are crispy. The cooking time may vary depending on the size of the sweet potatoes.
  5. Add Toppings:If you’re using Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it over the sweet potatoes during the last 10 minutes of baking, so it melts and becomes golden.
  6. Garnish and Serve:Once the sweet potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Garnish with fresh herbs, if desired. Serve warm as a side dish.
Enjoy your Hasselback sweet potatoes! They make a great side dish for roasted meats, grilled fish, or even as a hearty vegetarian option on their own.
