Ingredients:

Cake:

  • 3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Butter Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. Add buttermilk, softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, blend on medium speed for 3 minutes until smooth and well combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared Bundt pan.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  6. While the cake is baking, prepare the butter sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, butter, water, and vanilla extract. Stir continuously until the mixture is fully melted and smooth. Do not let it boil.
  7. When the cake is done, remove it from the oven. While still warm, use a toothpick or skewer to prick holes all over the cake.
  8. Slowly pour the warm butter sauce over the top of the cake, allowing it to soak into the holes and cover the surface evenly.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 30 minutes before carefully removing it onto a serving plate.
  10. Slice and enjoy this deliciously moist and buttery vanilla cake!
