I recently made Lobster Rolls, and they were an absolute treat! This classic New England dish features tender lobster meat dressed lightly and served in a buttery, toasted roll. It’s a simple yet decadent meal that's perfect for a summer lunch or dinner. Here’s how you can make them at home:
Ingredients:
For the Lobster Salad:
- 1 lb (450g) cooked lobster meat, chopped (you can use fresh lobster or pre-cooked, if available)
- 2-3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh chives or scallions
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- A pinch of paprika (optional)
For the Rolls:
- 4 New England-style hot dog buns (split-top)
- 2-3 tablespoons butter, melted
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Lobster Salad:
- In a large bowl, combine the chopped lobster meat, mayonnaise, lemon juice, chopped chives or scallions, and chopped celery (if using).
- Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of paprika (if using). Mix gently to combine, ensuring the lobster is well coated but not overly dressed.
- Cover and refrigerate the lobster salad for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
2. Prepare the Rolls:
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Brush the sides of the split-top hot dog buns with melted butter.
- Place the buns in the skillet, cut side down, and toast until golden brown and crispy. This should take about 2-3 minutes per side.
3. Assemble the Lobster Rolls:
- Once the buns are toasted, remove them from the skillet.
- Fill each bun generously with the chilled lobster salad.
4. Serve:
- Serve the lobster rolls immediately, with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
- Enjoy with a side of coleslaw, potato chips, or a fresh salad.
