Hey everyone! I've begun making sopes recently, and they're quickly becoming a favorite. These thick, corn-based discs topped with beans, meat, and vegetables are both tasty!

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups masa harina
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup refried beans
  • 1 cup cooked, shredded meat (like chicken or beef)
  • Shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, crumbled cheese, and sour cream for topping

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix masa harina, water, and salt to form a dough. Divide into small balls.
  2. Flatten each ball into a thick disk and cook on a hot griddle for 2-3 minutes per side until slightly golden.
  3. While still warm, pinch the edges of each disk to form a raised border.
  4. Spread refried beans over the sopes, then top with shredded meat and desired toppings.
Sopes are such a fun and tasty dish to make and customize. My family loves adding their favorite toppings and making it their own. I hope you enjoy making them too!

I think shaping the edges of the sopes to create a little “wall” helps hold the toppings better. Don’t forget to fry them until crispy, though! 🌮👌
