Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup warm water (110ยฐF/45ยฐC)
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, combine the active dry yeast, sugar, and warm water. Stir gently to dissolve the yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Use a wooden spoon or your hands to mix the ingredients until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Add more flour if necessary to prevent sticking.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 475ยฐF (245ยฐC). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.
- Shape the Crust:
- Punch down the risen dough to deflate it. Transfer it to a lightly floured surface and divide it into two equal portions for two 12-inch pizzas or leave it whole for a larger pizza.
- Roll out each portion of dough into a circle or rectangle of your desired thickness.
- Add Toppings and Bake:
- Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or lightly greased baking sheet.
- Add your favorite pizza toppings, such as tomato sauce, cheese, vegetables, and meats.
- Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the toppings are bubbly and melted.
