Ingredients:

  • 4 sushi-grade tuna steaks, about 6 ounces each
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (black or white, or a combination)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or sesame oil (for searing)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: Sriracha or chili flakes for added heat

Instructions:
  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, rice vinegar, honey or maple syrup, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame seeds. Taste the marinade and adjust the sweetness or acidity to your preference. If you like a bit of heat, add a splash of Sriracha or a pinch of chili flakes.
  2. Place the tuna steaks in a shallow dish or resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the tuna, making sure each steak is evenly coated. Cover the dish or seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the fish.
  3. Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil or sesame oil in a large skillet or cast-iron pan over high heat until shimmering.
  4. Remove the tuna steaks from the marinade, allowing any excess marinade to drip off. Season both sides of the tuna with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  5. Carefully place the tuna steaks in the hot skillet and sear for 1-2 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness of the steaks, for rare to medium-rare doneness. Be cautious not to overcook the tuna, as it should remain pink and tender in the center. And Serve!
Experience the delectable ocean flavors with this sesame soy ginger seared tuna! 🌊🐟 Let the savory soy, aromatic ginger, and sweet honey captivate your senses. Enjoy! Bon appétit!
