Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1.5 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 pound boneless ribeye steak
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • ¾ cup thinly sliced yellow onion (from 1 onion)
  • 1 8-oz. baguette
  • 6 ounces sliced Provolone cheese
Directions

  1. Place a rimmed baking sheet on the middle oven rack and preheat the oven to 475°F.
  2. In a shallow dish, combine Worcestershire sauce, olive oil, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper. Coat the steak in the marinade. Place the steak in the middle of the hot baking sheet. Toss the bell pepper and onion in the remaining marinade, then arrange them in an even layer around the steak.
  3. Bake for 15 to 16 minutes, or until a thermometer inserted into the center of the steak reads 135°F for medium-rare, and the vegetables are tender. Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes. Move the bell pepper and onion to a bowl. Thinly slice the steak against the grain and mix it with the bell pepper and onion.
  4. Increase the oven temperature to broil. Line the baking sheet with foil. Place the baguette on the sheet and cut it lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through. Place half of the Provolone cheese slices along the cut sides of the bread, then spoon the steak mixture on top of the cheese. Add the remaining cheese slices on top.
  5. Broil for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges of the bread are toasted. Cut the sandwich into 4 servings.
