Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs beef bones (with some meat on them)
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 10 cups water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:

  1. Roast the Bones (Optional): For a richer flavor, roast the beef bones in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 30 minutes until browned. This step is optional but adds depth to the broth.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large pot, add the beef bones, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, and bay leaf.
  3. Add Water and Simmer: Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 4-6 hours, occasionally skimming off any foam or fat that rises to the top.
  4. Strain the Broth: After simmering, strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into another pot or large bowl. Discard the solids.
  5. Season and Cool: Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the broth cool, then refrigerate. The fat will solidify on top, making it easy to remove if you prefer a leaner broth.
  6. Store: Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or freeze for longer storage.
So easy and so flavorful—perfect for all your cooking needs!
