Ingredients:
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp almond extract (optional but it adds a nice flavor)
- 3 tbsp milk
- Extra sugar for rolling the dough (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, until everything is combined.
- Roll dough into small balls (about 1.5 inches), then roll them in sugar if you want that extra crunch.
- Place them on the baking sheet about 2 inches apart and slightly flatten each ball.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Don’t overbake – you want them soft!
- Let them cool on the sheet for a minute or two before transferring to a wire rack.
