I recently tried making Thai Moo Ping, and it was a delightful experience! These Thai grilled pork skewers are marinated in a blend of sweet and savory flavors, resulting in tender and juicy bites that are perfect for any occasion. Here’s how you can make this mouthwatering dish at home:
Ingredients:
For the Marinade:
- 1 lb (450g) pork shoulder or pork butt, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar (preferably palm sugar)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon cilantro stems, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon white pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
For Grilling:
- Bamboo skewers, soaked in water for at least 30 minutes
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Marinade:
- In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, minced garlic, chopped cilantro stems, white pepper, and vegetable oil. Mix well until the sugar is dissolved and the ingredients are well combined.
2. Marinate the Pork:
- Add the thinly sliced pork to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.
3. Skewer the Pork:
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Thread the marinated pork slices onto the soaked bamboo skewers, folding them in a zigzag pattern to keep them secure.
4. Grill the Skewers:
- Place the skewers on the preheated grill. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the pork is cooked through and has a nice char.
- If you’re using an oven, you can broil the skewers on high, turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking and a nice char.
5. Serve:
- Remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes.
- Serve the Moo Ping hot with sticky rice and a side of Thai dipping sauce, such as Nam Jim Jaew or a simple sweet chili sauce.
