Hey everyone! 🍲 Here’s a classic Yankee Bean Soup recipe that’s perfect for chilly days. It’s hearty, comforting, and super easy to make. Hope you like it!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb dried navy beans (or Great Northern beans)
  • 1 ham hock or 2 cups diced ham
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 8 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:

  1. Soak Beans: Soak the beans overnight in plenty of water. Drain and rinse before cooking.
  2. Cook the Soup: In a large pot, combine the soaked beans, ham hock, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, bay leaf, and broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beans are tender.
  3. Season: Remove the ham hock, shred the meat, and return it to the pot. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot.
