Vegan Doughnut Recipe
Ingredients
- ΒΌ cup vegan margarine (50 g)
- Β½ cup soy milk (120 mL)
- 2 tablespoons sunflower oil, plus extra for frying
- 2 cups plain flour (250 g)
- Β½ cup caster sugar (100 g)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Β½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough
- In a small saucepan, gently melt the vegan margarine over low to medium heat.
- Add the soy milk and 2 tablespoons of sunflower oil to the melted margarine. Mix well and set aside to cool slightly.
- Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the plain flour, half of the caster sugar, baking powder, and salt. Use a fork to mix them evenly.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the melted margarine mixture.
- Gradually mix everything together until a thick dough forms. Use your hands if necessary to fully incorporate the ingredients.
- Shape the Doughnuts
- Lightly flour your hands to prevent sticking. Roll the dough into small balls and gently press your thumb through the center of each ball to create a hole, forming doughnuts.
- Fry the Doughnuts
- Heat sunflower oil in a deep frying pan or pot. To test if the oil is ready, fry a small piece of bread in it. The bread should brown and float to the surface in about 45-50 seconds.
- Carefully place the doughnuts into the hot oil using a spatula. Fry each side for 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Finish and Serve
- Once fried, transfer the doughnuts onto a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- While still warm, roll each doughnut in the remaining caster sugar until coated evenly.
- Serve the vegan doughnuts warm and enjoy!
