- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract

- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven: to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream the butter and sugar: In another bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
- Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
