When I first made this taco meat recipe, I was blown away by how something so simple could be so flavorful. It's now a staple in my kitchen, perfect for busy weeknights or casual get-togethers. The best part? It’s quick and easy, but tastes like you’ve been working on it for hours. Let’s dive in!
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix (or homemade)
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped fresh cilantro, lime wedges, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, and lettuce for serving
Instructions:
- Brown the beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it's browned and cooked through. Break it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
- Add onions and garlic: Stir in the chopped onion and garlic. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
- Season the meat: Sprinkle the taco seasoning mix over the meat and stir well to coat. Let it cook for another minute to let the spices bloom.
- Add tomato sauce and water: Pour in the tomato sauce and water. Stir everything together, making sure the meat is well coated with the sauce.
- Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve: Spoon the taco meat into warm tortillas and top with your favorite taco toppings like fresh cilantro, lime wedges, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, and lettuce.
