Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup cold milk (whole or buttermilk works best)
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter.
- Add Milk: Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the cold milk. Stir gently with a wooden spoon or spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky and shaggy.
- Knead Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead the dough a few times (about 5-6 folds) until it comes together. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut Biscuits: Use a biscuit cutter or a floured glass to cut out biscuits. Press straight down without twisting to ensure they rise evenly. Gather the scraps, gently knead, and cut out more biscuits until all the dough is used.
- Bake: Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, close together but not touching. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let the biscuits cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm with butter, jam, honey, or your favorite toppings.
