Brown sugar syrup is a versatile and delicious addition to various desserts, beverages, and even breakfast items. Here’s a simple recipe to make brown sugar syrup at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark, depending on your preference)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine Brown Sugar and Water:
    • In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar and water.
  2. Heat and Dissolve:
    • Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the brown sugar completely dissolves. This usually takes 3-5 minutes.
  3. Simmer:
    • Once the sugar is dissolved, bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Allow it to simmer for another 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add Vanilla Extract (Optional):
    • If using vanilla extract for extra flavor, stir it into the syrup after it has simmered.
  5. Cool:
    • Remove the syrup from heat and let it cool to room temperature. It will thicken slightly as it cools.
  6. Store:
    • Transfer the brown sugar syrup to a clean glass jar or bottle with a tight-fitting lid. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Tips:

  • Adjust Consistency: If you prefer a thicker syrup, you can simmer the mixture a bit longer to reduce it further.
  • Flavor Variations: You can customize the syrup by adding spices such as cinnamon or ginger during the simmering process.
  • Usage: Brown sugar syrup can be used in various ways – drizzle it over pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal, stir it into coffee or tea, use it as a topping for ice cream or desserts, or incorporate it into cocktails and mocktails.

I think using dark brown sugar gives the syrup a deeper caramel flavor, though light brown sugar works great too! 🍮🍂
