Caramelized Apple and Walnut Tart
Ingredients:
Caramelized Apple and Walnut Tart
Ingredients:
- For the crust:
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3-4 tbsp ice water
- For the filling:
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Make the crust: In a food processor, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the filling: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, stirring until combined. Add the sliced apples and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the apples are tender and caramelized. Stir in the vanilla extract and chopped walnuts. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Assemble the tart: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Press the dough into the pan and trim any excess. Pour the apple and walnut filling into the crust, spreading it evenly.
- Bake the tart: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Let cool before serving.
- Serve and enjoy: Slice and serve the tart warm or at room temperature, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce!
