I'm super excited to share one of my favorite recipes featuring chayote. This versatile vegetable is not only delicious but also packed with nutrients. Today, I'll be sharing my recipe for chayote Stir-Fry, perfect for any meal of the day!
Ingredients:
- 2 medium-sized chayote, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color you prefer)
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 200g firm tofu, cubed
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional for added flavor)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add minced garlic and sliced onion to the skillet. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
- Toss in the cubed tofu and cook until lightly browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the sliced Chayote, bell pepper, and julienned carrot to the skillet. Stir-fry for another 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender yet still crisp.
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and sesame oil.
- Pour the sauce over the vegetables and tofu in the skillet. Stir well to coat everything evenly.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remember, the soy sauce already contains salt, so adjust according to your preference.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Once done, remove from heat and transfer the stir-fry to a serving dish.
- Garnish with chopped green onions if desired, and serve hot with steamed rice or your favorite grain.
