Classic Spanish Custard (Natilla Dessert) Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Zest of 1 lemon
- Ground cinnamon, for garnish
- In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, egg yolks, cinnamon stick, and lemon zest. Whisk until well combined and smooth.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens and comes to a gentle boil, about 10-15 minutes.
- Once the custard has thickened, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook, stirring constantly, for an additional 2-3 minutes to ensure the cornstarch is fully cooked.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and discard the cinnamon stick and lemon zest.
- Pour the custard into individual serving bowls or ramekins.
- Allow the custard to cool to room temperature, then cover each bowl with plastic wrap, making sure the plastic wrap touches the surface of the custard to prevent a skin from forming.
- Refrigerate the custard for at least 2 hours, or until chilled and set.
- Before serving, sprinkle ground cinnamon over the top of each custard for garnish.
- Serve the Classic Spanish Custard (Natilla Dessert) cold, and enjoy the creamy, comforting flavors of this traditional Spanish treat!
