Ingredients

  • For the Banana Bread:
    • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
    • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
    • 1/4 cup melted butter
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
    • 1/4 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips (optional)
  • For Frying:
    • Oil for deep frying (vegetable or canola)
  • For Coating (optional):
    • Powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Make the Banana Bread Batter:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
    • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the nuts or chocolate chips if desired.
  2. Heat the Oil:
    • In a deep pot or fryer, heat oil to about 350°F (175°C). Make sure there’s enough oil to fully submerge the balls.
  3. Form the Balls:
    • Use a cookie scoop or your hands to form small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) from the banana bread batter.
  4. Fry the Balls:
    • Carefully drop a few balls into the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through, turning them occasionally for even cooking.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the balls and drain them on paper towels.
  5. Coat and Serve:
    • If desired, toss the warm banana bread balls in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. Serve them warm.

Tips

  • Serving Suggestions: These are delicious on their own or served with a side of chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or whipped cream for dipping.
  • Storage: If you have leftovers, they can be stored in an airtight container, but they're best enjoyed fresh!
