- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
- Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a gentle boil, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the pudding into individual serving dishes or a large serving bowl.
- Cover the surface of the pudding with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming.
- Refrigerate the pudding for at least 1-2 hours, or until chilled and set.
- Serve the pudding chilled, optionally topped with whipped cream, fresh fruit, or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
