Ghorayeba Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, plus extra for dusting
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whole blanched almonds or pistachios, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed butter mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Add the vanilla extract to the dough and mix until well combined.
  6. Pinch off small pieces of dough and roll them into balls about the size of a walnut.
  7. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
  8. Gently press a whole blanched almond or pistachio into the center of each dough ball, if using.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies are set and just beginning to turn golden brown around the edges.
  10. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Once cooled, dust the Ghorayeba cookies generously with powdered sugar.
  12. Serve the cookies with tea or coffee and enjoy the delicate flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture of these homemade treats!
