Gotgam Mari Recipe (Korean Dessert)

Here's a recipe for Gotgam Mari, one of my favorite Korean desserts. It is a traditional yet unique Korean dessert made with dried persimmons and walnuts. It is also called Dried Persimmon Rolls with Walnuts. 🍊🌰

Ingredients:​

  • 6 dried persimmons (gotgam)
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (or other nuts like pine nuts, if preferred)
  • A pinch of cinnamon powder (optional)
  • Honey or syrup (for drizzling, optional)

Instructions:​

  1. Prepare the Walnuts:
    • Toast the walnuts lightly in a dry pan over medium heat for about 5 minutes or until fragrant. Let them cool completely.
  2. Prepare the Persimmons:
    • Gently peel the dried persimmons. They should be soft and pliable. If they’re too stiff, you can steam them lightly to soften.
    • Use your hands or a rolling pin to flatten each persimmon. Be gentle to avoid tearing them.
  3. Add the Filling:
    • Lay a few walnuts in the center of each flattened persimmon. If desired, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon powder over the nuts for extra flavor.
    • Carefully roll the persimmon around the walnuts, pressing firmly to hold the shape.
  4. Serve:
    • Slice each roll into smaller pieces and arrange them on a serving plate. Drizzle with a bit of honey or syrup for extra sweetness if you’d like.
    • Enjoy your Gotgam Mari as a unique and elegant Korean dessert!
