Ingredients:

  • 2 cups pomegranate juice (100% pure juice, not from concentrate)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

Instructions:

  1. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a saucepan, pour the pomegranate juice and add the granulated sugar.
  2. Heat and Stir:
    • Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously until the sugar completely dissolves. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes. Do not boil the mixture.
  3. Add Lemon Juice:
    • Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the saucepan from heat.
    • Stir in the freshly squeezed lemon juice. This helps to balance the sweetness and enhances the tartness of the grenadine.
  4. Cool and Store:
    • Allow the grenadine mixture to cool to room temperature.
    • Once cooled, transfer the grenadine syrup into a clean glass bottle or jar with a tight-fitting lid.
  5. Store:
    • Store the grenadine syrup in the refrigerator. It should keep well for several weeks.

Notes:

  • Pomegranate Juice: Use 100% pure pomegranate juice for the best flavor and color. Avoid juice blends or those with added sugars or preservatives.
  • Sugar: Adjust the amount of sugar based on your preference for sweetness. You can add more or less sugar to suit your taste.
  • Variations: Some recipes include a small amount of orange flower water or rose water for added flavor complexity. Feel free to experiment with these if desired.
Homemade grenadine syrup is versatile and can be used in classic cocktails like Shirley Temples, Tequila Sunrises, and many more. Enjoy experimenting with this homemade version in your favorite drinks!
