- ยผ cup unsalted butter
- 4 ounces bittersweet baking chocolate or โ cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 8 ounces evaporated milk or half and half
- ยพ cup granulated sugar
- 6 to 8 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- ยผ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

- In a small or medium saucepan over medium-low heat, melt ยผ cup of unsalted butter with 4 ounces of bittersweet baking chocolate (or semisweet chocolate chips), stirring often.
- Once the butter and chocolate are melted, slowly whisk in 8 ounces of evaporated milk (or half and half) until well combined.
- Add ยพ cup of granulated sugar, 6 to 8 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, and ยผ teaspoon of salt. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and combined.
- Keep the saucepan over medium-low heat and continue whisking frequently for about 5 to 6 minutes until the mixture just begins to boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes, stirring continuously.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
- Serve the hot fudge sauce warm over ice cream immediately, or let it cool before transferring to a heat-safe jar or container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
