If you're looking for a popular street snack, you might want to try these fried bananas coated in crispy batter and deep-fried until golden brown. So I'm sharing here a simple recipe to make Pisang Goreng.
Pisang Goreng Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 ripe bananas (preferably pisang raja or plantains)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons rice flour (or cornstarch)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 cup water (or coconut milk for richer flavor)
- Vegetable oil for deep-frying
- Powdered sugar or honey for serving (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bananas:
- Peel the bananas and cut them into halves or thirds, depending on their size. You can also slice them diagonally for longer pieces.
- Prepare the Batter:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rice flour (or cornstarch), salt, baking powder, and sugar.
- Gradually add the water (or coconut milk) to the dry ingredients, whisking continuously until you have a smooth batter with a thick consistency. The batter should coat the back of a spoon without dripping too much.
- Coat the Bananas:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a deep skillet to 350°F (180°C).
- Dip each banana piece into the batter, ensuring it's evenly coated on all sides. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
- Fry the Pisang Goreng:
- Carefully place the battered bananas into the hot oil, a few pieces at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the fryer.
- Fry the bananas for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the fried bananas from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve:
- Serve the Pisang Goreng hot as a snack or dessert.
- Optionally, sprinkle powdered sugar over the fried bananas or drizzle them with honey for extra sweetness.
