Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe bananas (preferably pisang raja or plantains)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour (or cornstarch)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup water (or coconut milk for richer flavor)
  • Vegetable oil for deep-frying
  • Powdered sugar or honey for serving (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bananas:
    • Peel the bananas and cut them into halves or thirds, depending on their size. You can also slice them diagonally for longer pieces.
  2. Prepare the Batter:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rice flour (or cornstarch), salt, baking powder, and sugar.
    • Gradually add the water (or coconut milk) to the dry ingredients, whisking continuously until you have a smooth batter with a thick consistency. The batter should coat the back of a spoon without dripping too much.
  3. Coat the Bananas:
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a deep skillet to 350°F (180°C).
    • Dip each banana piece into the batter, ensuring it's evenly coated on all sides. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
  4. Fry the Pisang Goreng:
    • Carefully place the battered bananas into the hot oil, a few pieces at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the fryer.
    • Fry the bananas for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
    • Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the fried bananas from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve the Pisang Goreng hot as a snack or dessert.
    • Optionally, sprinkle powdered sugar over the fried bananas or drizzle them with honey for extra sweetness.
Enjoy your homemade Pisang Goreng! These crispy and caramelized fried bananas are delicious on their own or served with a scoop of ice cream for a delightful treat.
