Hey, foodies! Are you craving for a pizza but you're on a diet and you want a flavor for your pizza that will still go to your diet plan? I got your back! because I will share to you our favorite Salad pizza. Instead of your typical sauce and cheese, this pizza "bowl" is filled with a hearty Italian salad. Here's how you make it.
Ingredients:
For the pizza dough:
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the toppings:
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives
- 1/2 cup sliced red onion
- 2 cups mixed salad greens (such as arugula, baby spinach, or mixed greens)
- 1/4 cup balsamic glaze
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the pizza dough:
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Stir until a dough forms, then turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
2. Preheat the oven and prepare the toppings:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a circle or rectangle, depending on your preference, on a lightly floured surface.
- Transfer the rolled-out dough to a lightly greased baking sheet or pizza stone.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Scatter the cherry tomatoes, black olives, and red onion slices over the cheese.
3. Bake the pizza:
- Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly.
4. Add the salad topping:
- In a mixing bowl, toss the mixed salad greens with the balsamic glaze until evenly coated.
- Pile the dressed salad greens on top of the baked pizza.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
5. Serve:
- Slice the salad pizza into portions and serve immediately, while the crust is still warm and crispy.
