  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or lamb over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion, diced carrots, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste, frozen peas, beef or vegetable broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened slightly.
  5. Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture to a 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Spread the mashed potatoes over the top of the meat mixture, using a spatula to smooth it out.
  7. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes for added flavor.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the Shepherd's Pie is heated through and the top is golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
