- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup hot sauce (such as Frank's RedHot)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 4 hamburger buns
- Lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayonnaise, for serving
- In a shallow dish, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce.
- Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness, then place them in the buttermilk mixture. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator.
- In another shallow dish, whisk together the flour, salt, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Remove the chicken breasts from the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge them in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Carefully place the chicken breasts in the hot oil and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes per side.
- Remove the chicken from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- Toast the hamburger buns, then assemble the sandwiches with lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayonnaise, and the fried chicken breasts.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious spicy chicken sandwiches!
