Ingredients
- 1 lb steak (ribeye or sirloin)
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 4 sandwich rolls or baguettes
- 4 slices of provolone cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Arugula or spinach for garnish
Procedure
- Prepare the Steak: Season the steak with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the steak for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until your desired doneness. Remove from skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
- Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil. Sauté the onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms until they are tender and caramelized. Add the balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the rolls and place them on a baking sheet. Layer the sliced steak on the bottom half of each roll, followed by the sautéed vegetables. Top with a slice of provolone cheese. Toast in the oven for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and add a handful of arugula or spinach. Top with the other half of the roll and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious steak sandwich!
