Steak with Creamy Mushroom Sauce
Ingredients:
- 2 filet mignon steaks (about 1 inch thick)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 8 oz (225g) cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh thyme, for garnish
Instructions:
- Season the Steaks: Generously season both sides of the steaks with salt and pepper. Set aside.
- Sear the Steaks: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest.
- Sauté the Mushrooms: In the same skillet, add the butter and sliced mushrooms. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the mushrooms are golden brown and tender.
- Make the Sauce: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add the beef broth, Dijon mustard, and heavy cream, stirring to combine. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Serve: Return the steaks to the skillet, spooning the creamy mushroom sauce over them. Garnish with fresh thyme for an extra burst of flavor.
