Turkish Lamb Pide Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 250g ground lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sumac
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Yogurt and fresh herbs for serving

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt. Gradually add the warm water, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground lamb until browned. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
  4. Stir in the diced tomato, ground cumin, paprika, sumac, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes, then remove from heat and set aside.
  5. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll out each portion into an oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Spoon the lamb mixture onto the center of each dough oval, leaving a border around the edges. Fold over the edges to create a boat shape, pinching the ends to seal.
  7. Transfer the prepared pides to the lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Serve hot, topped with a dollop of yogurt and a sprinkle of fresh herbs. Enjoy your delicious Turkish Lamb Pide!
