I recently made Bosnian Klepe, and they were absolutely delicious! These savory dumplings filled with a seasoned meat mixture and served with a creamy garlic sauce are a true comfort food. Here’s how you can make these delightful dumplings at home:
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup water (more if needed)
For the Filling:
- 1/2 pound ground beef or lamb
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon ground paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the Sauce:
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Make the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the egg and water.
- Mix until a smooth dough forms, adding more water if needed. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is elastic and smooth.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
2. Prepare the Filling:
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground meat, onion, and garlic until the meat is browned and the onion is soft.
- Season with paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
3. Roll Out the Dough:
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into squares, about 3 inches on each side.
4. Fill the Dumplings:
- Place a teaspoon of the meat filling in the center of each dough square.
- Fold the dough over to form a triangle, and press the edges firmly to seal. You can use a fork to crimp the edges for a tighter seal.
5. Cook the Dumplings:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Gently drop the dumplings into the boiling water.
- Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the dumplings float to the surface and the dough is cooked through.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the dumplings and transfer them to a serving dish.
6. Prepare the Sauce:
- In a small bowl, combine the sour cream, minced garlic, and salt. Mix well.
7. Serve:
- Drizzle the garlic sauce over the cooked dumplings.
- Garnish with fresh parsley.
