Looking for an easy way to make crème fraîche at home? This simple recipe requires just two ingredients and is foolproof, perfect for adding a creamy, tangy touch to your dishes. ;)

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup heavy cream or whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon fresh buttermilk or crème fraîche
Equipment:
  • 1 sterilized glass jar
  • 1 sterilized metal spoon


Directions:
  • Mix the cream and buttermilk in the jar.
  • Cover and let it sit in a warm place (like on top of the fridge) for 12–24 hours. This allows the buttermilk cultures to thicken the cream.
  • Shake or stir the mixture 2–3 times while it sits to prevent a hard layer from forming.
  • After 12–24 hours, the mixture should be thicker and smell slightly sour. Stir it well and chill in the fridge for about 2 hours. It will thicken more as it cools.
