Ingredients:
Procedure:

Ingredients:
- Pastry:
- 1 package (16 oz) phyllo dough, thawed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- Filling:
- 6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- Topping:
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Procedure:
- Preheat the oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the filling:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, raisins, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to coat the apples evenly. Set aside.
- Prepare the phyllo dough:
- On a clean, dry surface, lay out one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it with melted butter. Layer another sheet of phyllo on top and brush with butter. Repeat this process until you have layered 6 sheets.
- Assemble the strudel:
- Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top layer of phyllo dough. This will help absorb the moisture from the apples. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the breadcrumbs, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts if desired.
- Roll the strudel:
- Carefully fold in the short sides of the phyllo dough, then roll up the dough lengthwise to form a log. Place the strudel seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top with melted butter.
- Bake the strudel:
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crisp. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
- Serve:
- Dust the strudel with powdered sugar before slicing and serving warm.
