- 8 oz flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 cups mixed vegetables (such as bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, and snap peas)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 cup beef broth or water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Green onions, chopped (for garnish, optional)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)
- Cook the noodles: Cook the lo mein noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Marinate the beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and beef broth or water. Set aside.
- Stir-fry the beef and vegetables:
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the marinated beef slices and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- Stir-fry the vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the mixed vegetables to the skillet and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
- Combine everything: Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Add the cooked noodles and pour the prepared sauce over everything. Toss well to combine and coat everything evenly with the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until heated through.
- Serve: Transfer the beef lo mein to serving plates or bowls. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade beef lo mein!
