Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
Instructions:

  1. Cream Butter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy and smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add Sugar: Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed until incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  3. Add Liquid: Add the heavy cream (or milk), vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to the butter-sugar mixture. Beat on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Adjust Consistency: If the frosting is too thick, add more heavy cream or milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar.
  5. Beat Until Smooth: Continue to beat the frosting until it is smooth, creamy, and holds its shape well.
  6. Use Immediately: Use the buttercream frosting immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies. If not using right away, cover and store in the refrigerator. Re-whip before using.
  7. Enjoy: Enjoy the rich and creamy texture of this homemade Buttercream Frosting on all your favorite baked goods!
This Buttercream Frosting recipe is a must-have for any baker's repertoire. It’s perfect for decorating and adds a sweet, buttery finish to your cakes and cupcakes. Happy baking!

I think a classic buttercream with butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla is perfect, though adding a bit of heavy cream makes it extra smooth! 😋

This is my go-to buttercream recipe too! It always turns out so smooth and fluffy. One thing I like to do is add a couple of tablespoons of cocoa powder for a chocolate version, or even some fruit puree for a fruity twist. 🙂✨😉👍

Ah, buttercream—a baker's best friend! Can't wait to whip up a batch and frost some cupcakes with it.
