Cilantro Mint Chutney

Hey everyone, I want to introduce you to one of my favorite condiments: Cilantro Mint Chutney! 🌿✨ This zesty, green sauce is packed with fresh cilantro and mint, giving it a refreshing and vibrant flavor. It's super easy to make and pairs perfectly with so many dishes.

  • 1 cup fresh cilantro (coriander) leaves, packed
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves, packed
  • 1-2 green chilies, chopped (adjust according to spice preference)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1-2 cloves garlic
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 tablespoons water (adjust as needed)

Optional Add-ins:​

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt (for a creamier chutney)

Instructions:​

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
    • Wash and roughly chop the cilantro and mint leaves.
    • Chop the onion, garlic, and ginger.
  2. Blend the Chutney:
    • In a blender or food processor, combine the cilantro, mint, green chilies, onion, garlic, ginger, lemon juice, sugar, and salt.
    • Add a small amount of water to help with blending.
  3. Adjust Consistency:
    • Blend until smooth. If the chutney is too thick, add more water, a little at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.
  4. Taste and Adjust:
    • Taste the chutney and adjust the seasoning as needed, adding more salt, sugar, or lemon juice to balance the flavors.
  5. Optional Creamy Variation:
    • For a creamier version, blend in the yogurt after the chutney is smooth. This will give a milder flavor and creamier texture.
  6. Serve:
    • Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl. It can be served immediately or chilled in the refrigerator for later use.

Serving Suggestions:​

  • Serve as a dipping sauce with samosas, pakoras, or other appetizers.
  • Use as a spread for sandwiches or wraps.
  • Drizzle over grilled meats or vegetables.
  • Mix with yogurt to create a raita.
