There’s nothing quite like the taste of freshly baked hoagie rolls. These rolls are perfect for sandwiches, subs, or just enjoying with a bit of butter. They’re soft, fluffy, and incredibly satisfying to make from scratch.
Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add olive oil, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until smooth.
- Gradually add the remaining flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 6-8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a hoagie roll and place on a greased baking sheet.
- Cover the rolls with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let the rolls cool on a wire rack before serving.
