Ingredients:

  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 12-16 frozen or refrigerated wonton wrappers
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish (optional)
  • Sriracha or chili oil, for serving (optional)
Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the chicken broth, soy sauce, sesame oil, and grated ginger (if using). Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced mushrooms and green onions to the simmering broth. Let the soup cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender and the flavors have melded together.
  3. While the soup is simmering, prepare the wontons. If using frozen wonton wrappers, thaw them according to the package instructions.
  4. Lay out a few wonton wrappers on a clean work surface. Place about 1 teaspoon of your desired filling (such as ground pork, shrimp, or a combination of vegetables) in the center of each wrapper.
  5. Moisten the edges of the wonton wrappers with a little water, then fold them over to enclose the filling and press the edges to seal. You can leave the wontons as is or fold them into a triangle or shape of your choice.
  6. Carefully drop the filled wontons into the simmering soup one by one. Let the wontons cook for 3-5 minutes, or until they are cooked through and tender.
  7. Once the wontons are cooked, ladle the Lazy Wonton Soup into serving bowls. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves if desired.
  8. Serve the soup hot, with sriracha or chili oil on the side for those who enjoy a spicy kick.
  9. Enjoy the warm and comforting flavors of this Lazy Wonton Soup on a chilly day, and savor each delicious bite!
Note: You can customize the soup by adding other ingredients such as baby spinach, bok choy, or sliced carrots for extra flavor and nutrition.
