I recently made Lebanese Fattoush, and it was a refreshing and vibrant salad that’s perfect for any meal! This traditional Lebanese dish combines fresh vegetables, crispy pita bread, and a tangy dressing. Here’s how you can make it at home:

Ingredients:

For the Salad:

  • 2 pieces of pita bread, toasted or fried until crispy
  • 1 head of romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 2 large tomatoes, diced 🍅
  • 1 cucumber, diced 🥒
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 4 radishes, thinly sliced
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced 🧅
  • 2-3 green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped

For the Dressing:

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 🍋
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sumac (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Pita Bread:

  • Toast or fry the pita bread until it's crispy. Break it into bite-sized pieces and set aside.

2. Prepare the Vegetables:

  • In a large salad bowl, combine the chopped romaine lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced cucumber, diced red bell pepper, sliced radishes, sliced red onion, chopped green onions, fresh parsley, and fresh mint.

3. Make the Dressing:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, fresh lemon juice, red wine vinegar, sumac, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.

4. Assemble the Salad:

  • Pour the dressing over the salad and toss well to combine.
  • Add the crispy pita pieces to the salad and toss gently to mix.

5. Serve:

  • Serve the fattoush immediately, garnished with a sprinkle of extra sumac if desired.
