🛒 Ingredients:

  • 500g pork belly, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2-3 shallots, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons palm sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce (for color, optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 cup water or chicken broth
  • Vegetable oil, for cooking
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish
  • Sliced green onions, for garnish

🍲 Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pork:
    • In a large pan or wok, heat a bit of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
    • Add minced garlic and thinly sliced shallots. Sauté until fragrant and lightly browned.
  2. Braise the Pork:
    • Add pork belly pieces to the pan and cook until they start to brown on all sides.
  3. Make the Sauce:
    • In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, palm sugar, dark soy sauce (if using), and fish sauce until well combined.
    • Pour the sauce mixture over the pork belly in the pan. Stir to coat the pork evenly.
  4. Simmer:
    • Add water or chicken broth to the pan, enough to cover the pork belly.
    • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the pork is tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. Serve:
    • Once the pork is tender and the sauce has reduced to a thick consistency, remove from heat.
    • Transfer Moo Hong to a serving dish. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and sliced green onions.

🌿 Serving Suggestion:

  • Enjoy Moo Hong hot with steamed jasmine rice or sticky rice. The tender pork belly and savory sauce are sure to satisfy your cravings for comforting Thai flavors!
